Owls Take Down Samsons

Owls Take Down Samsons

The GCC Samsons fell 101-54 to the Owls from Oakland CC on Saturday, November 2nd in Petoskey, MI.  The Owls depth and athleticism ultimately wore down the Samsons, but GCC was able to stay close early.

GCC's Kate Borseth found Melissa DiGiorgio for a bucket inside to start the game.  The Owls immediately scored two consecutive baskets, but Borseth again found DiGiorgio to tie the score at 4.  OCC then went on a 10-0 run and extend their lead to 14-4 with 6:14 left in the quarter.  The Samsons did start to score in the second half of the opening quarter and kept the Owl's lead at ten, 26-16 after the first quarter.

Samson turnovers brought on in-part from the OCC full court press began to add up as did personal fouls for GCC.  Borseth and freshman Gracie Kleikamp both were whistled for their second personal foul and DiGiorgio was called for her third in the second quarter.  The Owls kept their high-powered offense rolling and then went into the locker room up 54-29.

OCC saved their best offensive output for the third quarter, as they outscored GCC 29-14.  The Owls led 83-43 after three quarters.  They extended their lead in the final quarter to secure the 101-54 victory.

Borseth led GCC with 16 points.  DiGiorgio and Freshman Sydney Saari both scored 12 for the Samsons.  DiGiorgio was also named to the all-tournament team for the weekend.

The Samson's next matchup is Friday, November 8th against Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, IA for the Dale Howard Classic.
