The GCC Samsons lead from start to finish as they topped the MSCTC Spartans 67-45 on Saturday, December 14th in Fergus Falls, MN.
The Samsons quickly went ahead 5-0 to start the game. Freshman RaeLynn Robinson fed Sophomore Abbie Legault inside for an easy 2, then Sophomore Melissa DiGiorgio connected from behind the arc. Three other Samsons drilled 3-pointers in the quarter as Freshman Brooke Stanislawski, Sydney Saari and Sophomore Kate Borseth all hit one. This helped GCC finish off their best offensive quarter of the game and they led 23-15 after the opening quarter.
Although early fouls in the first part of the second quarter slowed their offense a bit, the Samsons still outscored the Spartans 11-7. Sophomore Lilly Johnson passed up an open shot and made the extra pass to Borseth who drilled another triple with just over four minutes to go. Legault drilled two free throws at the end of the quarter to put GCC up 34-22 at the half.
Six different Samsons scored in the third quarter and GCC found more offense, outscoring MSCTC 18-7. The Samsons led 52-29 after three quarters. The Spartans outscored the Samsons in the final quarter, but GCC emerged victorious, 67-45.
Nine Samsons scored and they were led by DiGiorgio's double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Borseth added 13 points, including 3-three pointers. Robinson scored 11 points and had 5 steals.
The Samsons are off until January 8th, 2025 when they head to Minnesota North-Mesabi Range.
