The GCC Samsons defeated the Minnesota North-Itasca Vikings 81-46 on Friday, February 16th, in Grand Rapids, MN.  It was great team win, as all eight players contributed to the victory.  The Samsons took control of the game early and didn't look back as they never trailed in the contest.

GCC started the game off with a full court press, which helped create early turnovers and the Samsons were able to get out and run.  Offensively, GCC was extremely efficient and six different Samsons scored in the quarter, and they jumped out to a 19-4 lead.  GCC ended the quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers by Freshmen Emmy Bobula and KD Beeksma.

Fellow Freshman Annabelle Besonen got on the 3-point trend as she drilled one of her own to begin the second quarter.  Although the Vikings started to find their offensive rhythm from 3-point range, the Samsons continued to roll.  Itasca drilled a 3-pointer with just under four minutes to go in the quarter and GCC was still ahead, 27 to 12.  The Samsons responded with back-to-back three point plays the hard way as both Besonen and Sophomore Kylee Hewitt made shots while being fouled and both players knocked down their shot at the charity stripe, extending the Samson lead to 33-12, with 2:33 left.  Itasca outscored GCC 7 to 9 in the final minutes of the quarter, but the Samsons still led 40-21 heading into halftime.

The Samsons continued to roll offensively as they outscored the Vikings 20-16 in the third quarter, which included a pair of 3-pointers from Freshmen Kate Borseth and another from behind the arc from Bobula.  GCC outscored Itasca 21-9 in the final frame and built their largest lead of 37 points with just over a minute to play.  Sophomore Hanna Hoskin drilled a 3-pointer in the final quarter and Hewitt really started to dominate in the paint for the Samsons, as they came away with a 81-46 victory.

The well balanced GCC attack was led by Hewitt, who had 20 points and 7 rebounds.  Borseth scored 18 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.  Besonen added 14 points, while Bobula chipped in 12 points and grabbed a team high 10 rebounds.
