Rams Prevail Over Samsons

The Rams from Anoka-Ramsey Community College defeated the GCC Samsons 88-43 on Saturday, December 9th at the Lindquist Center.

The speed, quickness and intense full court pressure applied by the Rams immediately bothered the Samsons and created turnovers. Anoka-Ramsey hit a 3-pointer to start the game. After a few turnovers, GCC got on the board as Lilly Johnson put back a missed jumper from Kate Borseth.  Anoka-Ramsey was fouled on their next possession and hit both shots from the charity stripe. Johnson drilled a 3-pointer on the next Samson possession, tying the score at 5-5 with just over six minutes to go in the first quarter. Unfortunately, that is as close as GCC would get.   The Samsons kept it close, only trialing 17-10 after the opening quarter. The Rams kept up their defensive intensity, but they drastically improved their shooting percentage in the second quarter and outscored the Samsons 27-9 in the quarter.  Anoka-Ramsey shot 47.8% from the floor and forced 19 GCC turnovers.  The Rams led 44-19 at the half.

Anoka-Ramsey continued what they started in the first half, and the Rams led 44-19 heading into the final quarter.  The Samsons had their best offensive output in the final quarter where they scored 14 points.  Despite finding more offense, the GCC turnovers were just too much to overcome as the Rams cruised to an 88-43 victory.

The Samsons committed 29 turnovers, which led to 38 points for the Rams.  Anoka-Ramsey also got 16 points on fast break points go only 2 for GCC.

Kylee Hewitt tallied 15 points and 7 rebounds for the Samsons.  The Rams were led by Alex McNeill who scored 36 points.

The Samsons are on the road next weekend as they head to Bay College.  GCC will play Western Tech on Friday, 12/15 and Bay College on Saturday, 12/16.
