The GCC Samsons fell 55-45 to the Lady Blue Devils of Riverland Community College on Friday, December 7th at the Lindquist Center.

The Lady Devils took an early 6-0 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers.  GCC struggled early to find some offense, and Samson Freshman Annabelle Besonen finally hit a 3-pointer,  However, it took over four minutes GCC to get on the board.  Riverland responded with another 3-pointer, but GCC Freshman Kate Borseth drilled a 3-pointer of her own to bring the Samsons within 3.  The Lady Devils scored inside twice more and GCC Sophomore Kylee Hewit made her first shot of the afternoon in paint.  Riverland led GCC 13-8 after one quarter.

The Lady Devils began to extend their lead in the second quarter, taking advantage of GCC turnovers. Their lead ballooned to 10 points, 25-15 with 2:30 left in the second quarter.  Hewitt scored on a nifty up and under move, while Borseth nailed another 3-pointer with 1:27 left and the Samsons only trailed by 5, 25-20.  The Lady Devils were able to score inside one more time before halftime and Riverland led 27-20 going into halftime.

GCC's offense stalled in the third quarter as the Samsons only put up four points in the quarter.  Riverland took advantage of that and outscored GCC 16-4 in the quarter, growing their lead to 43-24.

The Samsons finally found some rhythm offensively and outscored the Lady Devils 21-12 in the final quarter, but Riverland's lead was just too much for GCC to overcome.

Hewitt led all scorers with 21 points, 17 rebounds and 2 assists.  Sophomore Hanna Hoskin chipped in 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks for the Samsons.
