Vanessa Weber signs with the Samsons!

The GCC Women's Basketball Team is excited to announce the signing of 6' post player Vanessa Weber. Vanessa is from Bayfield, WI and played high school basketball for the Castle Guards of Washburn, WI. The daughter of Alicia Erickson, Weber will be studying Welding at Gogebic.

Weber also played softball in high school, but she excelled in basketball where she was Honorable Mention All-Conference as a junior and 3rd Team All-Conference in the Northern Lights Conference as a senior.

Vanessa averaged 10.7 points and 12 rebounds in her senior campaign for the Castle Guards. Her successful senior year was also highlighted by a few impressive individual performances. Vanessa scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a victory over Butternut at home. She also put up 22 points and nabbed 16 rebounds in a close loss to Solon Springs at home. As a junior she averaged 10.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

Although Weber decided to play for GCC at the last minute, she is looking forward to playing a higher level of basketball and is excited to play and have fun! The Samsons are looking forward to adding another skilled post player to their roster.

Quote from Coach Schreiner:

"We're excited to have Vanessa joining us at Gogebic. She'll add some size that we really needed to this recruiting class. She plays hard and loves the game of basketball. In high school she showed flashes of how good she could be, but once she gains her confidence in college, she will be a tough player for us. Vanessa is a good person, she will fit in great with the rest of the team!"

Vanessa joins Annabelle Besonen (Watersmeet HS), Kadence "KD" Beeksma (Mellen HS), and Kate Borseth (Ewen-Trout Creek HS) in the GCC Women's Basketball recruiting class.
